"IT ALL ADDS UP!" Literacy Volunteers of Monongalia and Preston Counties is partnering with Clear Mountain Bank to offer a financial literacy program to adult students. The six-week course will focus on building a solid foundation for independent financial success. Representatives from both institutions will instruct students on various topics, including checking account use, debit and credit cards, and budgeting. Upon completion of the course, students will have an opportunity to open a new Clear Mountain Bank checking account. Literacy Volunteers will match up to $50.00 of the initial deposit. "Literacy Volunteers partners with over 35 organizations in both Monongalia and Preston Counties to help people find and use community resources," said Trella Greaser, Assistant Director of Literacy Volunteers. "We are excited to help people in our neighborhoods reach their financial independence goal through agency interactions and education." In addition to financial support from Clear Mountain Bank, Literacy Volunteers will utilize money received from a Weldon Foundation grant to help fund the program. "Financial skills are critical in today's society, and we're glad to help serve this need within our community," said Brian F. Thomas, President and Chief Executive Officer of Clear Mountain Bank. In order to be eligible, students should not currently have an open checking account. Beginning April 5, weekly classes will be held in both Monongalia and Preston Counties. To participate, call Trella Greaser at (304) 319-1018. Source: Dominion Post, Sunday, March 21, 2010. |
